I support SMEs who need clear, independent HR advice they can trust when people matters need to be handled properly.
I’m Amanda Tierney, a Chartered Member of the CIPD and independent HR consultant. I provide honest, transparent and practical support to small and medium-sized businesses, focused on delivering fair, proportionate and defensible outcomes.

I have supported a broad range of HR activity, including employee relations, manager coaching, policy development, organisational change, onboarding, and performance and capability management within fast-paced business environments.
That experience underpins how I work today. I provide clear, straightforward advice that is commercially aware, grounded in professional standards, and focused on helping businesses make practical decisions with confidence.
I currently operate at HR Business Partner level, partnering with senior managers across the full employee lifecycle.
This includes advising on recruitment and onboarding, performance and capability, employee relations, organisational change, policy development, offboarding, and strengthening manager capability.
I have also worked as a Senior Employment Law Consultant, providing first-line employment law and HR advice to businesses and HR teams.
Earlier in my career, I held senior management roles with significant responsibility for people leadership, including investigations, disciplinary and grievance processes, absence management and performance.
This combination of consultancy, advisory and operational leadership experience means I understand both HR processes and the realities of applying them in fast-paced organisations, ensuring advice is practical, realistic and grounded in what works.

I believe HR advice should be clear, practical and proportionate to the situation. Grounded in professional standards and focused on helping businesses make fair, defensible decisions with confidence.

Support is available on an ad hoc, fixed-fee, retainer or weekly intensive basis, depending on your business needs. This approach provides flexibility while ensuring scope, fees and timescales are clearly defined from the outset.
My role is not to overwhelm you with jargon or theory, but to bring clarity, focusing on what matters, outlining your options, and ensuring a fair process in practice.
I provide independent, evidence-based support while you remain in control of decisions. I guide and support the process, but your business retains ownership of the outcome.
My advice is grounded in CIPD best practice, the ACAS Code and UK employment law, with a focus on fair, proportionate and defensible decisions that reflect the facts and level of risk.

When you work with me, you can expect support that is:
I also believe in setting clear expectations from the outset. Before any work begins, I confirm scope, timescales and the most appropriate support approach in writing—so there is complete clarity around what will be delivered and what the next steps will be.
Tierney HR Consulting was built around a simple idea. Many SMEs need experienced HR support, but don’t always need or want a full in-house HR function. Often, support is needed at key moments, during periods of change, or when a people issue carries greater risk and needs to be handled carefully.
My aim is to provide that support in a way that is professional, accessible and practical. I want clients to feel they have someone they can rely on for clear guidance, honest advice and support that helps them move forward with confidence.
Even without an in-house HR function, clients can feel confident their business is supported to the same professional standard. Protecting the business through fair, transparent and ethical guidance at every stage..
I am a Chartered Member of the CIPD, and my work is grounded in independence, confidentiality and professional standards. While Tierney HR Consulting operates as an independent consultancy, CIPD membership applies to me as the individual practitioner.
I also maintain clear boundaries around conflicts of interest. I will not support both an employer and an employee in the same matter where a real or perceived conflict exists.
If you want practical, independent support with employee issues, documentation, manager guidance or ongoing HR matters, I can help you find the right next step for your business.
